I have a new found respect for Triathletes. I think I am in shape, because I run. But, my hat goes off to those who are in training and have completed any triathlon especially the Iron Man. I have been pseudo training. I say pseudo training because my race is not until next year. I have to get comfortable enough in the pool before I can race. My task this year is the Duathlon. I have been training a month, and I am worn out. Bike, run, and swim and be good at all three. Not to mention working a full time job, and taking care of a family for some.
Today I get up at 4:30 am drive 20 minutes to meet with a group to do a group bike ride. I rode for 90 min then head home to make an appointment at 9:30 — doctor’s appointment for my yearly physical. I get caught in travel, then my car stalled for about 5 min in the middle of the street. I was struck with people, honking at me, yelling who know what. Those 5min felt like an hour. My car finally starts, then I drive the rest of the way home. I then jet to my appointment with my bike gear. After my appointment I head home change and drive (while deep i prayer) to the hospital perform a surgery. My car stalks again, and again, but I made it on time. Again I pray and pray and drive to my trusted mechanic. Enterprise picks me up for a rental car so I can get around. I stuff my bike in my economy rental to take it to bike stop so they can check my gears. This morning I was having problem changing to higher gears. I find out that it was user error. My road bike is like a new toy. It is so different from my hybrid. It seems like I go to the bike store about every week to get them to look at something. I then go to swimming class. It never fails, that once I think I mastered something, my instructors find someone to challenge me. I get ” freaked out” and drink or breathe water which “freaks me out” even more. I head home to wash my hair and finish paper work. Oh, by the way I forgot to mention I hit a curve in my car on the way to bike ride this morning , thought I would have a flat, then almost fell twice off my bike. The clips take a minute to get use to, and lost my group.
Ok it is allot, but I am loving it. I worked out , and slept last weekend, I did make some time to hang out with friends but I biked to and from the event. Movement is really by life, and I would not have it another way.
“Don’t you realize that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit, who lives in you and was given to you by God? You do not belong to yourself” 1 Corinthians 6:19
I listen to Rick Warren’s podcast in the morning. It is part of my devotion. Last week he spoke about working with the hand we are dealt with. He mentioned the above verse. Working out, being health, is not about just looking good. Meaning it is not all about you. I took that to heart, all I do I do for Christ, it gives me extra motivation on days like today
Be inspired, and move something. Never give up, the journey is worth it.
Well, it is literally not my baby but something I have been working on for two years. It is finally finished. Not sure how many of you know but I started writing a book about two years. It finally published; I received the news Friday. It was a labor of love. I wanted to thank Mani Saint-Victor who virtually introduced me to Kellan Fluckiger. His book writing seminar was the key to doing something I had been wanting to do for a long time. I also thank my Spec El Brown who wrote her book, and inspired me to tell my story too. My originally editor my sister-in-law I would like to thank also. I also want to thank my friends, family, running families, my doctors for the support and inspiration. Last but not least I want to thank my Jesus. “Faith without works is dead” had the faith and he saw fit for me to make it to the finish line.
Details of the release date, book signing, etc to be announced.
I was going over my goals for 2017, as half of the year is over. While I have not accomplished everything I set out to do I have overcome some deep seated fears.
Well, I let God remove a person from my life. Professionally I am taking more risks. I am still in the running game, although I still have a fear regarding my injuries. I am already setting new and promising goals for 2018. Watch out something big is coming before the end of 2017. Details will be coming soon.
So this old video gave me some motivation. I was so inspired to run my three marathons to become a Marathon Maniac, that I made a video to enter a DSW contest for free entry into a Marine Corp Marathon. By the way I won, face those fears. The sky is the limit.
I wanted to be her when I was a child. She is the only women superhero I remember as a child. I loved Lynda Carter.
She was a bad ass, in a good way. I was in the theatre saying ” Go Girl”. Running though flying bullets and they were bouncing off her brackets.
It proves that love conquers all. Yes, I am a hopeless romantic.
I love the boldness, but beauty of her character. It proves that women can be strong, and beautiful at the same time.
It was funny, Diana innocent and nativity of the “real world” was hilarious and also cute.
It gave me a reason to wear my wonder women running outfit the weekend of the opening.
It was awesome to see a women lead character in a major motion picture. Marvel actually trump DC movies to me. Marvel needs to take notes on this one. They need a movie with a powerful women lead character
In the end the good guys win, although there maybe some losses along the way
If something is worth fighting for, it is worth dying for. Steve gave his life for something greater than himself.
While one should always listen and respect their parents, sometimes one has to go against their wishes in order to find one’s life purpose. Diana was destined to be a god killer. In order to fulfill her purpose she has to go against her mother’s wishes.
I love movies especially the ones that I can mirror with life. I felt like an empowered, strong, beautiful woman when I left the movie. It affirmed what I already know. However I will not go running through bullets with brackets and a shield 🙂
“They have a triathlon in Jackson on June 3rd. You have to swim in the reservoir, bike I think 24 miles, and run 10k what ever that means. It starts at 7:00 and ends at noon. That should be more than enough time for you!”
So I was tickled and thought he has more faith in me than I have in myself or he just wants me to come home. Well I messaged my best friend, his mom. She laughs and states that he thinks that I rock.
Well, I do rock. Not to be conceived but” I can Do All Things Through Christ Who Strengthens me” So I texted him back and told him four days is a little short notice. That I can’t get to Mississippi and am not trained for the swim part of the race. I tell him next year.
I can’t lie to my Godson so I am going to give me my all to train and do that triathlon next year. So my plan is to take some swim classes. ( What will I do about my hair- my main concern). Also plan to do some duathlons . Well there is one on July 30, 2017. Also I need at least a road bike, versus my hybrid. I need some help from my triathlete friends
Ok thanks to my Godson I am going to conquer my FEAR (False Evidence Appearing Real) with the help of a few people ( it does take a village). Also swimming will be great cross training as I prepare for my Marathon in New York.
So Mother’s Day weekend was a true low for me. My mother passed 8 years ago and each Mother’s Day is different. The first was the worse. I as an annual tradition started running Susan G. Komen, and raising money for the cause. It helped to ease the pain, but this year that wasn’t enough. I did not have the will or desire to get out of bed to run or to go to church.
So last weekend was a make-up. I ran a 5k for Night Nation Run. They support “ Stand Up for Cancer” so I could ran for my Mom and my Dad. He too died of cancer. These were my first races since I injured my knee and sustained a small cartilage injury. Running for a cause has significant meaning for me.
After my Mom was diagnosed with cancer. I signed up the Susan G. Komen fun mile walk/run. After the first year, I said I would run the 5k. So I went to track and starting walk/running. I would walk a lap and run a lap until I worked up to running the 3.2 miles. I started running again, because of her. So it is only fitting that I run in memory/honor of a cause so much greater than me. It gives more purpose to my steps.
It is also so much fun. I love to dress up with numerous outfits, I play instrumental/motivational music. I am always pumped. I high-five the kids, I smile for the camera and always meet new friends along the route. I love it when people come up to me and say that like my spirit, that they paced with me. I feel some way. I helped them in their race.
Running is like a good drug to me. It is therapeutic, and helps me feel free. I would love your help this year as I commit to running my 9th Marathon in New York this Fall. I missed it twice because of previous injuries This year I will commit to slow, steady training, and to listen to my body, doctor (not me) and my physical therapist. I am running for the American Cancer Society. Please join me along the way.- we keep you all up to date with my progress along the way Also if you could help me meet my fundraising goal I would be forever grateful. I do this not only for my parents, but for all those who have lost someone, those who have fought & continue to fight the battle against evil cancer. Let us together kick cancer’s butt. Together we are stronger.
